(CBS 11 News) DALLAS CBS 11 News has learned a baby boy tested positive for cocaine after his parents were arrested in a North Dallas drug raid.
The Denton County Sheriffs Department Swat Team raided the North Dallas house late last month. Agents say they found drugs, guns, and cash. There were also two children inside the house.
Child Protective Services tells CBS 11 News that it was a six-month-old boy who tested positive for cocaine.
Robert Ricker, who lives nearby, says he is stunned. "It's a very scary situation and my sister lived with me, with my nephew, for a couple of months and actually came over to this house and played with them a couple of years ago."
The child's parents, Aundrey Johnson and Allison Bridgewater, are charged with endangering a child.
Plano family doctor Sander Gothard says a child suffering from cocaine addiction has symptoms that could include - a fast heart rate, high fever, and possible seizures.
Gothard says the risks are more serious for children than adults. "Children are less susceptible to tolerate fluctuations in temperature and heart rate, than adults are."
Reports indicate the SWAT team found crack cocaine within reach of the children. Authorities called CPS and the agency placed the children in foster care.
"Unfortunately, children are often found in these types of settings as well. It's a sad thing. We see it all the time," said Sam Cantrell, Assistant U.S. Attorney, East District Texas.
Johnson has also been indicted on federal drug and gun charges and, depending on his criminal history, could face a maximum penalty of life in prison.
