A Katy woman is accused of engaging in a sexual relationship with a
neighbor boy that lasted for two years and may have resulted in her
bearing the victim's child, authorities said.
Dina Marie Blakley, 37, was taken into custody late Wednesday and
charged with aggravated sexual assault of a child.
Residents who live near Blakley and the victim in Katy's Creekstone
subdivision weren't surprised after learning of the arrest - noting
her frequent quarrels with neighbors and the large number of children
who regularly congregated at her home.
"I have three kids and I don't pay attention to rumors, but I don't
let my kids go down there," said neighbor Michael Hurbrough.
"One or two boys is one thing - but if you've got eight, nine or 10
boys (often seen at the house), that's suspicious," Hurbrough said.
The victim, now 15, told his older sister early last month about the
alleged abuse - which began when he was 11 and ended at 13, Harris
County sheriff's officials said.
The victim's sister told their mother about what she learned, who then
reported the incident to authorities - who launched an investigation
that resulted in Blakley's arrest.
The attacks apparently happened in the suspect's home in the 22000
block of Birch Point. Blakley and the victim's mother had been best
friends in the past, Harris County sheriff's deputies said.
"They used to take turns baby-sitting each other's children,"
Sheriff's Sgt. Dana Wolfe said. "That's when she (Blakley) would take
advantage of the situation and have relations with him."
Sheriff's officials said Blakley was separated from her husband at the
time of the assaults, but neighbors said the two are a couple again.
Blakley's family members could not be reached for comment Thursday.
Authorities said Blakley has three children: two boys and a girl. Her
daughter is 14, her two sons are 4 years old and 18 months. Questions
about who fathered her youngest child triggered the investigation into
the sexual abuse allegations.
According to the criminal complaint filed against her, the victim came
forward with the allegations after Blakley told him in early July that
she became pregnant with her youngest son during their liaison.
"He felt pressured by the overwhelming responsibility of being a
father," Wolfe said. "That's what made him go to (his sister)."
A DNA test has been ordered to determine if the teenager is the father
of Blakley's child, authorities said.
Officials with Harris County Children's Protective Services also are
investigating the allegations and whether Blakley's children may have
witnessed the abuse or were victimized.
"Right now, we don't have custody of the children," CPS spokeswoman
Estella Olguin said. "What we do in a case like this is to make sure
they would be someplace safe."
The children may be placed in foster care if case workers determine
adult family members are unable to provide adequate protection, Olguin
said.
Blakley, who also uses the name Joan Davis, was being held Thursday at
the Harris County Jail with bail set at $30,000.
