Jose Alvarez Jr.. 37, was charged with injury to a child, which is a second-degree felony.
The Hutto Police Department received a priority one CPS referral for a 10-month-old girl who was at the Round Rock Health Clinic with serious injuries.
On July 8, the mother of the 10-month-old took her to the clinic for a bruise on her left wrist. An examination of the girl disclosed additional injuries, including an acute fracture of her left wrist and a healing fracture of the shaft on the left ulna. The girl was then transported to the Dell Children's Hospital for further analysis.
The hospital performed a skeletal survey on the girl and discovered several other fractures in the girls' arm and wrist. The doctor who performed the tests completed a report stating the constellation of multiple fractures is highly suggestive of abusive-related injury.
Officials contacted Alvarez and interviewed him on July 14. During the interview, the suspect told police that he accidentally broke the 10-month-old-girls' bones by playing rough with her.
Alvarez has a criminal history. He was convicted on Dec. 23, 1996 in California for willful cruelty to a child. His relationship to the victim is unknown.
