ALICE, TX - A 40-year old Alice man is now out on bond following his arrest earlier this week on charges of injury to a child.

The children in this case are 4 foster kids that Homero Chapa, Jr. and his wife have had for about 6 months.

Investigators say that there were 10 children living in the house, 4 were the foster children and 6 were the man's biological children.

The foster children were taken by cps after officials found severe bruising on them Monday.

"It's not a common occurrence we deal with child abuse cases all the time. So it's not unusual but we certainly don't like to see it. It's tragic," said Lt. Luis Barrera with the Alice Police Department.

Police say the abuse ranged from the brain being swollen to an earlobe being ripped off.

Chapa's family, who talked to us after the story aired, says the children are doing fine and were never in danger. They say the allegations against Chapa are false.

One of Chapa's relatives, Mari Chapa said," He's my brother-in law and I come here 3 or 4 times a week and those children are well taken care of, were well taken care of. I was here the whole time I know. I know a lot of things and I know one thing for sure that they were not being abused."

Chapa was arrested and brought to the police station Monday and investigators say that he admitted to causing injury to the children.

The oldest foster child is 4 years old.

There are still 6 of Chapa's biological children that live with him and his wife.

"Child Protective Services is looking into other sibling at resident at that address and they are investigating whether some type of removal is warranted," said Lt. Barrera.

The 4 foster children are said to be doing okay.
